Acne: A Skin Condition That Can Ruin Your Self Esteem

Acne is one of the most embarrassing and frustrating skin conditions people (young or old) can have. It has the potential to really kick your self-esteem a pounding because of how it can affect your appearance.

They say beauty is only skin deep but when you have a face filled with painful acne then it's hard to live that way.

Most people who have to live with acne on a day-to-day basis usually don't know that there's lots of different ways to treat the acne or pimples that plague their lives. Healing the skin and making those painful red dots disappear doesn't take rocket science.

The problem with acne is first off that most people don't know what causes it and secondly that most people are totally unaware of the wide range of treatments that are available for all types of acne; no matter what age you are. Lots of people just wait for acne to go away on it's own without treatment. Unfortunate there are those people who develop adult acne and struggle with this problem well into their adult lives. Personally I'm aware of a girl of 26 years of age who is still dealing with teenage type acne.

So What Is Acne?
The various pimples that you notice on the surface of your face are actually minor infections that have embedded themselves into your skin. The openings or pores of these sections of the skin can be a breeding ground for these bacteria to sneak their way into and multiply. When you skin is producing too much oil it creates an almost perfect environment for these bacteria to breed and grow even further by sealing the skin pore shut.

The main problem most people have is that they're not aware thay they need to exfoliate (remove the layers of dead skin) their skin on a daily basis. To keep your skin in top condition you need to be removing the dead skin cells each day. Otherwise these skin cells become "food" for the bacteria which cause acne in the first place. This ongoing cycle of infected skin pores and lots of dead skin cells can just make your acne multiply like wildfire.

What Causes Acne?
This is where all the most common misconceptions about acne come to the surface (no pun intended). Parents all over the world warn their children daily that eating greasy foods or eating too much chocolate will cause acne. The truth is that these types of foods don't directly cause acne but dramatically reduce the bodys ability to keep the childs skin clear. How? Through a lack of basic nutrition i.e. if a child is eating junk food all day long then their immune system won't be functioning as it should and that's how skin conditions can get started.

Acne cases can be cared for though. A combination of medication and proper skin care can see acne or pimples greatly decreased in the vast majority of sufferers. Being proactive in the case of acne treatment is even more important - it's much easier to stop the condition from starting than cure it once it's occured.

Most people experience an acne breakout or attack of pimples at some stage during their lives. More often than not this is just a passing phase.
